The Cybertruck is being hailed by enthusiasts as the truck of the future, and it certainly looks the part. With its angular, silver body of ultra-hard, 30x cold–rolled stainless steel alloy body panel "exoskeleton", the vehicle looks like a spaceship on wheels. Tesla says some of the same stainless steel is also used in SpaceX’s Starship rockets.

The Cybertruck’s performance is as impressive as its appearance. The trip-motor configuration boasts a 14,000-pound tow capacity, out-pulling a Ford F-150 which tops out at 11,300. The Cybertruck's claimed 2.9-second 0-60 mph time will beat a Porsche 911 in a drag race. The top trim 3 motor version is expected to have an all-electric range of 500 miles—the furthest of any EV to date. In addition to its rock-solid fundamentals, the Cybertruck offers a number of intriguing perks. It uses a full-width LED bar for its headlight and taillight. An additional light strip at the top of its windshield can be used when off-roading. Inside the cabin, a center jump seat permits three-person front row seating. A 6 ft, 100-cubic-foot truck-bed, is covered by a retractible tonneau cover that has been demonstrated to be strong enough to hold the full weight of a person, as Elon Musk demonstrated during a test drive with Jay Leno. The Cybertruck also also has auxiliary storage compartments under its hood and wings. Optional add-ons include a “Cyberquad” electric ATV designed to fit within the bed and a pop-up truckbed camping tent with field kitchen that includes an electric stove powered by the truck.

With its striking design and technical innovation, the Cybertruck has stolen the spotlight from competitors such as Bollinger’s B2 and Rivian’s R1T. It is estimated, based on analysis of over 16,000 pre-order confirmation serial numbers, that Tesla has over 1,000,000 preorders for the Cybertruck, making it the most popular new car introduction of all time. In June, Tesla reiterated that it expects to begin production at its Austin Gigafactory in late 2021.
