The Hyundai Ioniq 5 takes the cake as one of the most unique and style forward EVs available today. With a throwback retro meets digital modern design, coined as “retrofuturistic” it’s hard not to check one out as it drives past you. Hyundai, with its parent company Kia, designed an all new 800v architecture and modular platform, called the Electric Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP, that has allowed them to create not just the Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60, but also other future electric vehicles large and small. The architecture allows for the fastest DC charging speeds available in any EV sold in the US, theoretically capable of 350 kW charging speeds, though 220 kW is more likely to be achieved regularly. This enables the E-GMP cars to charge from ten to eighty percent in 18 minutes!

The Ioniq 5 itself is quite a treat; while the exterior exudes the “retrofuturistic” look, the interior is decidedly modern and extremely practical. For example, the dedicated platform allows for not only a completely flat floor, but also a wheelbase that is even longer than the three-row Palisade. With an industry-first “Relaxation Comfort Seat” that fully reclines and includes a leg rest for drivers to relax while they are charging, Hyundai has thought of nearly everything with the Ioniq 5!
